Relaxing Dental Appointments? It’s Possible!
You may be skeptical, but we believe dental anxiety is totally treatable. It might also surprise you to hear that many dental professionals feel anxious about their dental treatment, too. You’re not alone, and our team wants you to know we care deeply about making your visits as comfortable as possible.
Avoiding the Dentist
At Bear Creek Family Dental, we know that when patients avoid us, it’s not because they’re unconcerned with their oral health. Life is busy, and if you’re stressing under the weight of other financial obligations, it makes sense that dental appointments can fall lower on your list of priorities.
You may also have deep-seated fears when it comes to dentistry. Whether you’re afraid of the sights and sounds inside of a dental office, you’ve had painful experiences in the past, you’re uncomfortable with the current condition of your mouth, or just prefer not to have your personal space invaded, we get it. We aren’t here to judge or shame you, but to help you improve and maintain the highest level of oral health possible.
A little light sedation may help us achieve this mission.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
You may infer this from the name, but it’s the use of a sedative during your dental visit to relax you while you receive the dental treatment you need. Dr. Shull can discuss whether sedation dentistry is right for you based on your level of anxiety, your individual needs and preferences, and your medical history. Dr. Shull takes all these factors into account before recommending or administering any kind of treatment or sedation.
Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as “laughing gas”, is a safe, effective sedative mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small facial mask at the beginning of your appointment. It’s fast-acting and produces warm, fuzzy feelings within minutes. You may also experience feelings of light-headedness and tingling in your arms and legs.
